MacNeil Conjoined cranks
Macneil BMX continues to produce high quality BMX parts. These guys are true parts and accessories company and you can tell that they put a lot of thought and effort into everything they make.
A fine example of MacNeil are the conjoined cranks. Most other BMX companies just basically go overseas and make a copy of Profile cranks, sometimes with very subtle cosmetic changes, then slap their logo on them. Not MacNeil BMX. These guys started from scratch and actually designed these cranks to be unique, strong, and practical. They are really very nice.
The first thing you may notice is the crank arms are actually two elliptical tubes. Macneil starts out with specifically drawn and tapered chromolly tubing, then joined together in the middle. The pedal and spindle bosses are added and welded with wrap around tubing from the arms for added strength. To help achieve an optimum strength to weight ratio, the crank arms are then heat treated after welding, this helps to even out the stress in the material created by the welding, basically making them 1 piece and hopefully eliminating any weak spots typically found in welded joints.
I know that was a but technical, but all you need to know is that MacNeil really did their homework with these cranks and tried to make something different, and better than most other 3 piece cranks out there. We think they succeeded.
Here are the specs:
