Here is the new Descendant Bike from Colony BMX. Inspired by the Phantom frame, this frame features a low stand over height of only 7″. Basically if you measure form the center of the BB shell to the center of the top tube/seat tube intersection - this measurement is only 7 inches. This produces a low frame height. Most frames are 8-10″, so this bike low. This is really a personal preference thing. It gives a lower center of gravity, one of the newer trends in street/park/ramp framesand bikes. We dont see an advantage for dirt riding, infact its probably a disadavantage for trails.

Retailing for approx $650, this bike is a bit pricey in our opinion. It does however feature some good quality, brand name parts, and weighs in at a respectable 24.03lbs.

Here are the full specs:

Here is something for all your BMX racers out there. This is the DK Spektre - DK’s top of the race bike. DK did not forget their racing roots when specing their BMX racing bikes.

The Spektre is built around a 7000 series, pro size frame featuring hydro-formed down tube and chain stays, with 3-D machine rear dropouts, Euro bottom bracket, and 21″ top tube. It’s basically the Octane Racing frame that is also sold seperatly.

Steering is accomplished via DK Crazy-8, 2 pc, 11 butted, 4130 Chromoly race bars mounted to a front loading, 1 1/8″ alloy stem. Headset is an integrated Cane Creek model with sealed bearings. Very nice. A lot of companies would skimp on the headset, DK did not.

Forks are DK R/T, Butted & Tapered 4130 Chromoly bolted to 3/8″ chromolly axles spinning on sealed bearings. The wheels feature Sun Ryno Lite XL rims, Sealed DK cassette hub, and Maxxis Holy Roller tires.

Power is transferred via DK platform pedals (DX style) with removable pins. You will get your crank on via genuine DK Social 3pc 175mm Chromoly 3-piece cranks and a Euro Sealed bottom bracket w/48 splined Chromoly spindle. You also get a CNC machine DK 44T sprocket and KMC chain. All very nice and what you would expect with a top of the line complete.

Stopping power is provided via Tektro Alloy V-brake w/Linear spring. When it’s time to sit down and rest you will be comforted by a DK Moto seat with 7mm rails, an Alloy 27.2 mm Micro Adjust post, and its all held together with a super light ally seat clamp. Oh yea, forget to mention the DK Tsuka grips.

The DK Spektre runs about $650 and is definatly worth the money. The overall design and quality of components is right on point for this price range. We can’t really complain about anything here.

Is it Pro Level? well no, but are you a Pro? a Pro level bike would run $1,000-$1,500. This bike is perfect for 14-16 year old intermediate, advanced, or expert racers and an overall good value. <!--

Tioga is back in the mix of high-end BMX racing components with their new D-Spyder seat. Back in the day molded plastic seats were all the rage for BMX racing bikes. Practicality, functionality, and light weight were the name of the game for racing seats. Comfort was not really an issue, because when your racing your not sitting down, your pedaling your butt off or riding way back over the back tire while you speed jump.

Padded seats only came into popularity in the mid 90’s when the whole dirt jumping, street riding thing took off. Nobody cared about how light their bike was, and in fact the heavier the better. People got the idea that if thier bike was heavy, it must be strong… NOT!

Anyway, back the Tioga D-Spyder seat. This is a modern day version of a classic BMX racing seat. One piece injection molded body, mounted on twin rails, design to be super light AND super comfortable. Yes this seat is actually very comfortable.

The body features Tioga’s patented spyderweb shell technology. It is made from super durable Carbonite, a proprietary blend of polyamide, reinforcing fibers and chemical additives. In English its a super strong, super light plastic. The big deal is that this particular blend, along with the unique design allows the seat to flex and conform to your butt, so its nice and comfy.

The rails are Hollow Composite Alloy seat rails that exhibit greater strength to weight ratio than solid Titanium rails. The whole thing only weighs 5.6 ounces, and it comes in either black or white.

The price tag is a bit stiff at around $80. But there is no cover to rip, its super light, super strong, and super comfortable, and probably the most advanced BMX seat on the market. This is a must have for any serious racer or weight conscious dirt jumper. Street and ramp guys, this is not for you.

Macneil BMX continues to produce high quality BMX parts. These guys are true parts and accessories company and you can tell that they put a lot of thought and effort into everything they make.

A fine example of MacNeil are the conjoined cranks. Most other BMX companies just basically go overseas and make a copy of Profile cranks, sometimes with very subtle cosmetic changes, then slap their logo on them. Not MacNeil BMX. These guys started from scratch and actually designed these cranks to be unique, strong, and practical. They are really very nice.

The first thing you may notice is the crank arms are actually two elliptical tubes. Macneil starts out with specifically drawn and tapered chromolly tubing, then joined together in the middle. The pedal and spindle bosses are added and welded with wrap around tubing from the arms for added strength. To help achieve an optimum strength to weight ratio, the crank arms are then heat treated after welding, this helps to even out the stress in the material created by the welding, basically making them 1 piece and hopefully eliminating any weak spots typically found in welded joints.

I know that was a but technical, but all you need to know is that MacNeil really did their homework with these cranks and tried to make something different, and better than most other 3 piece cranks out there. We think they succeeded.

Here are the specs:

// Super strong conjoined design
// Light weight (270/9.5 oz per arm)
// Sanko Japanese tapered tubing
// Full post welding heat treatment
// Profile style 48 spline 19mm OD spindle
// Titanium or Chromo spindle available
// Stylish Graphics
// Weight: 270/9.5 oz per arm
// Colors: Gloss Black, White

These cranks should run you about $160 for the arms and spindle which is a Profile style with nice flush mount allen head bolts. Bottom bracket is sold separately.

Here we have the Pro Lite BMX stem form Sinz Racing. This stem is design and built for BMX racing and light trail riding - the kind a racer would do.

One thing for sure is that this the lightest Pro size BMX stem you can get for your race bike. It is available in two sizes, 50mm reach and 55mm reach. The 50mm version only weighs 6.5 ounces! That is half the weight of most other BMX stems. The Odyssey is the closest at 8.2 ounces.

Construction is on the Sinz Pro Lite stem is front loading, hollow, forged alloy. The overall quality is pretty good, however we don’t like the bolts. This is an imported stem,and as such comes with the cheaper grade bolts. These bolts are common on may imported stems and they have a tendency to strip very easily and dolt bite as well as grade 8 chromolly bolts found on US made stems.

If you are trying to build a super lite bike, this stem will help you shave off a lot of weight. But we would recommend using aftermarket bolts like those made by 43 Hardware. If you really want to go crazy you can get the hollow bolts.

This stem is available in a very cool bead blast black finish, or a high gloss white. Retail is about $60, which is a bit high for an imported stem, but is the lightest stem you can by, so if your really concerned about weight, it is a good choice.
