Tioga D-Spyder BMX seat
Tioga is back in the mix of high-end BMX racing components with their new D-Spyder seat. Back in the day molded plastic seats were all the rage for BMX racing bikes. Practicality, functionality, and light weight were the name of the game for racing seats. Comfort was not really an issue, because when your racing your not sitting down, your pedaling your butt off or riding way back over the back tire while you speed jump.
Padded seats only came into popularity in the mid 90’s when the whole dirt jumping, street riding thing took off. Nobody cared about how light their bike was, and in fact the heavier the better. People got the idea that if thier bike was heavy, it must be strong… NOT!
Anyway, back the Tioga D-Spyder seat. This is a modern day version of a classic BMX racing seat. One piece injection molded body, mounted on twin rails, design to be super light AND super comfortable. Yes this seat is actually very comfortable.
The body features Tioga’s patented spyderweb shell technology. It is made from super durable Carbonite, a proprietary blend of polyamide, reinforcing fibers and chemical additives. In English its a super strong, super light plastic. The big deal is that this particular blend, along with the unique design allows the seat to flex and conform to your butt, so its nice and comfy.
The rails are Hollow Composite Alloy seat rails that exhibit greater strength to weight ratio than solid Titanium rails. The whole thing only weighs 5.6 ounces, and it comes in either black or white.
The price tag is a bit stiff at around $80. But there is no cover to rip, its super light, super strong, and super comfortable, and probably the most advanced BMX seat on the market. This is a must have for any serious racer or weight conscious dirt jumper. Street and ramp guys, this is not for you.
